edible fun: Octopus

Friday, August 10, 2012 30 Comments

While doing our weekly grocery trip, my eyes ventured over to the pasta.  Now, so that you can take a little gander into the way I think, I was not peering at the pasta contemplating dinner ideas, no, no, no.  That is not how my mind works; I am constantly thinking sensory bins or crafts when I look at things (I know I’m a little coo-coo)!  Now, I was most certainly, without a doubt, peering at the pasta looking for funky shapes for sensory bins – hehe!  I came upon this pasta, it’s called Galletti, NEVER heard of it (it could be made up just to sound all fancy schmancy ;)  Well, not really…apparently there are over 600 pasta shapes!  Who knew?

So, I gave you a little sneak peek this past week on Facebook of this pasta and the possibilities of what you can make with it are endless.  You guys definitely had some great ideas that have opened up my imagination even further! :)

Here’s another peek at what I showed you…

And here is where my imagination led me…

This little meal includes:

16 pieces Galletti Pasta, cooked (tentacles)
8 blue strings Twizzler Pull n Peel (woven through pasta to hold the tentacles together)
1 Corn Bread Muffin (head base)
1 Sharp Cheddar Cheese Slice (letter “O” & circle on head)
2 Blue “O” cereal shapes (eyes)
2 Marshmallow Bits (eyes)
13 Green Beans, cooked (seaweed)

And where does little miss V head to first on the plate?

I bet you can guess…yep, the marshmallow bits! :)

Yesterday, V & her friend volunteered at our local animal shelter to braid beds for the shelter cats. They then took turns reading to one of the cats, a cat who was having trouble eating that the shelter was hoping the interaction would coax him up & about.

I love that my kiddos have reached that middle school age where they can volunteer more easily without much parental help. Our local animal shelter allows kiddos to volunteer (with a parent there) at age 10. It’s really rad to see them come into their own with understanding on how to have an active role in participating and volunteering in their community, and what a reward it is to give 🤩

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!🌟🌟🌟 🤗 How did you HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!🌟🌟🌟

🤗 How did you celebrate the arrival of 2021?

🎲We played board games all night (cough cough surprise surprise 🤣) while munching on this charcuterie board.

🥳I surprised Eric & the kids by going all fancy for dinner last night. I wasn’t sure the kids would like the goat cheese (my favorite with fig spread 🤤) so I added some basic cheddar. But they LOVED it - I spread a little on one of the plain crackers with fig spread on top. So good!

🦀🐙🐡I backed Open Ocean from @featherstonegames on @kickstarter this summer. It’s so incredibly neat to see a game come together from start to finish.

🐠🐟🐬This game is beautiful I can’t wait to sit to play with the kids as they become budding marine biologists.

He’s a little bit funky... a little bit rock n r He’s a little bit funky... a little bit rock n roll. - I’m kinda loving him though, my little abstract tree.🎄

🧵Right before my dad passed last year, during my last visit with him, he gave me this giant bag of these vintage-y wooden spools knowing that I’d use them in my art classes or some other creative way.

🧐As I was lesson planning this weekend the idea came to me when I peeked them in my wood craftin’ drawer - CHRISTMAS TREE!!

✂️I also have a simpler idea in mind with no wire bending/cutting to try it in my art classes as a kinda ‘extra’ project for early finishers. Stay tuned!

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃🍽 I’m grateful th Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃🍽
I’m grateful this Thanksgiving for my Dad ❤️

📖📖📖When he was alive I’m not sure I appreciated this book as much, but now that he’s gone it’s made me appreciate him even more that he took the time to catalog all our family recipes into two cookbooks for us to have.

🦃🍁🍂This Thanksgiving without my mom joining us (she’s with friends this year) I was without her traditional treats like my favorite Pumpkin Cheesecake.

💪🏻So I attempted that (my first cheesecake EVER!) and Tussies (mini pecan pies) from scratch using my families recipes. I’m so excited to dig in today and the whole time making them made me feel extremely #grateful for my Dad & all he did for his family. 💕
