LEGO Norwegian flag

Monday, May 2, 2016 4 Comments

Check out this fun way to learn flags of different countries – today it’s a DIY LEGO Norwegian Flag!

This month’s Virtual Book Club for kids is Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems.  It’s a super funny story, a hilarious take on the fairy-tale classic Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  From the inside cover…

Once upon a time, there were three hungry Dinosaurs: Papa Dinosaur, Mama Dinosaur . . . and a Dinosaur who happened to be visiting from Norway.

One day—for no particular reason—they decided to tidy up their house, make the beds, and prepare pudding of varying temperatures. And then—for no particular reason—they decided to go . . . someplace else. They were definitely not setting a trap for some succulent, unsupervised little girl.

Definitely not!

ha-ha you gotta love that long lost dino friend visiting from Norway.  And that to-do list on the dinos’ fridge — pudding, chairs, bed, EAT, ha-ha!

Today, with this project we’re touching on colors, shapes, & geography!  We decided to visit Norway at home & created this fun DIY Lego Norwegian Flag to represent the country in a fun way.  Plus, we’ve already started constructing more flags as we work our way around the world!

Fun fact #324

Norwegians read more than any other population in the world, spending an average of 500 kroner (~ US$76) a year per capita on books. More than 2,000 book titles are published annually in Norway. (Facts about Norway: 1990-1991. 1991. Oslo, Norway: Schibsted.)

I’m guessing my bookshelves were not calculated in this survey.

We love learning in fun ways around here!  Want to make one too?!

Here’s how we made it:

LEGO NORWEGIAN FLAG

The supplies:

12 – Red 2×4 Lego bricks

6 – White 2×4 Lego bricks

4 – White 1x2x2 Lego bricks

4 – White 1×2 Lego bricks

4 – Blue 2×4 Lego bricks

6 – Blue 2×2 Lego bricks

(all of these bricks we already had from other sets – although we did venture to the Lego store and buy some 2×4’s in Blue, Orange, Green, & Yellow for making of future flags – yippee!)
