  5. Spread and layer sliced apples over the bottom of pre-greased pan.
  6. Sprinkle crumbled cake mixture over the sliced apples.

  1. Do you think you could use a funfetti cake mix?? I have that, lemon& Choc, but of course no yellow :(

  2. this looks amazing!! i’m making a berry crisp for thanksgiving and was wondering if you think this topping would be just as good/ would work well with a berry mix? Thanks!!

  3. Sooooo excited to try this! Question, could I use granny smith or do you recommend only using red delicious?

    • Thanks Kim! I used Red Delicious because I happened to have them on hand – but IMO, yes, I think it would be yummy either way – give it a go :)

  4. Yum. Absolutely delicious. The crumb topping is my favorite part so this recipe was perfect. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Just made this and ohhhhhmygoshhh it was so so good! That topping is to die for!!!! Definitely my new staple recipe for apple crisp! Never thought of cake mix! 5 stars! :)

  6. OMG. I made this tonight and it is DELICIOUS!!! Definitely my new fave apple crisp recipe:)

  7. I just made this for my moms birthday, we didn’t have any yellow cake mix in the house so i used a Cinnamon coffee cake mix that we had (just the mix, not the cinnamon part) now i’m thinking of putting the icing that comes with the mix on top. This was such an easy recipe! And not to mention Delicious!! Thanks for sharing it!

  8. Thanks for posting this recipe! I just made it and it is amazing! My family loved it!!

  9. do you prepare the cake mix according to the box?

  10. What size pan

    • Hi Tara! As listed in the recipe above, I used an 8×8 pan. You could go to a bigger pan – but it would be less of a crumb topping (and that’s not a option for me LOL – I NEED a one-inch crumb :)

  11. I just made this and it is sooo easy and soooo yummy! I drizzled caramel syrup over the apples before the crunch topping. I them added caramel syrup to some whipped topping and it is sooo delicious. Thanks so much for the recipe-I love it :)

  12. You had me at “topping is an inch thick”. It is definitely the best part of any apple crisp. Can’t wait to try it!

    • tehehee Robin – good to know I’m not the only one sucked in by the thought of a “one-inch crumb topping”!!! We were at Costco this past weekend & we passed by the “ultimate crumb cake” – you know Costco-style – MASSIVE with MASSIVE crumb! I told Hubs as we walked by if I am on my deathbed – please feed just this to me & all will be right in the world ;) Thanks for checking it out! xx
