DIY Mixed Up Beads

Thursday, May 14, 2015 10 Comments

DIY Mixed Up Beads - a fun project to go along with an awesome book! @mamamissblog #vbcforkids

Like The Mixed-Up Chameleon, our beads are a little mixed up – they are not quite sure what color they should be!

So why not be them all & just be – beautiful & full of changing colors like our Chameleon.

DIY Mixed Up Beads - a fun project to go along with an awesome book! @mamamissblog #vbcforkids

Our Virtual Book Club for Kids featured author this month is Eric Carle and the book picks are The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Tiny Seed, & The Mixed-Up Chameleon.

We chose The Mixed-Up Chameleon – it’s a wonderful & beautifully illustrated story… “The chameleon’s life was not very exciting until the day it discovered it could change not only its color but its shape and size, too. When it saw the wonderful animals in the zoo, it immediately wanted to be like them – and ended up like all of them at once – then it decides it is happy just being itself”

We read the book and then made some mixed up beads!

Want to make them too?!

Here are the materials to make your mixed up beads and turn them into a fab piece of jewelry…

  • tempera paint, we used peach, pink, & lime
  • 3/4 inch and 1 inch wooden beads
  • container for painting, we used an old plastic shoe bin
  • string
  • optional: Mod Podge Gloss Finish
  • optional: paint brush for applying Mod Podge

See the process here…

eeeeek our first video tutorial!  *swooning* miss V my little instructor.

After the beads are dry, apply a layer of the gloss finish Mod Podge to seal the paint and make the beads nice & shiny!  Let dry and thread on your string.  Now you have a beautiful mixed up necklace with gorgeous mixed up beads.

There you go – a book, and a fun little craft to go along with it!

DIY Mixed Up Beads – just grab some paint and beads to create these beauty’s. #vbcforkids
