bake: Beer Bread

Tuesday, August 14, 2012 8 Comments

I have a severe weakness for bread!

mmm-m’mmm-mmm-m

I read somewhere that the average person consumes 53lbs of bread a year – “GREAT SCOTT” – if that’s the case, then my average consumption has to be at least double that!  Wow, really Melissa, 106lbs of bread – WOWZERS, maybe I should cut back – HA!

So here’s where you can’t go wrong…it’s Beer Bread, like the title says.  That means it is bread with BEER in it, folks!  Can it get any better than that?  I think NOT!  (If you are unsure that this is a victorious combo, go ask your hubs; I think he will agree with me ;)

#2 reason that this is a beautiful combo in bread making.  IT’S SO EASY.  I mean so easy, your cat could do it!  I mean cats can pee in a toilet & flush said toilet, like in the movies – so why couldn’t they bake bread, too, no?

Reason #35…yes, I jumped ahead ;)  The bread is yummy sweet!  I love me some sweet bread!  I’m a big fan of Challah bread – I could eat a loaf in one sitting of that yumminess – holla!

Reason #127…stay with me here.  There is NO YEAST involved (unless you count the beer)– hallelujah!  See, me & the little yeast packets, yeah, well, we don’t get along.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of self-rising flour (I use Gold Medal)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 12oz can of beer (I usually use Natty Light) (experiment with different beers for different flavors!)
  • 2 TBS melted butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Spray a bread loaf pan with non-stick baking spray & set aside.
  3. Combine the flour, sugar, & beer in large bowl & mix well; The mixture will be very sticky.
  4. Pour mixture into the sprayed loaf pan & bake for 52 minutes.
  5. After the 52 minutes, remove pan from oven
  6. Using a pastry brush, spread butter on loaf to create a glaze.
  7. Place back in the oven for 3 more minutes to set glaze.
  8. Remove from oven & let sit for 5 minutes.
  9. Slice & enjoy!

Serves: 4-6

mmmmmmmm….

yum…

did I say YUM already?

Yesterday, V & her friend volunteered at our local animal shelter to braid beds for the shelter cats. They then took turns reading to one of the cats, a cat who was having trouble eating that the shelter was hoping the interaction would coax him up & about.

I love that my kiddos have reached that middle school age where they can volunteer more easily without much parental help. Our local animal shelter allows kiddos to volunteer (with a parent there) at age 10. It’s really rad to see them come into their own with understanding on how to have an active role in participating and volunteering in their community, and what a reward it is to give 🤩

🌟Potential. YESSSSS 🙌🏻 I really like this quote 🌟

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!🌟🌟🌟 🤗 How did you HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!🌟🌟🌟

🤗 How did you celebrate the arrival of 2021?

🎲We played board games all night (cough cough surprise surprise 🤣) while munching on this charcuterie board.

🥳I surprised Eric & the kids by going all fancy for dinner last night. I wasn’t sure the kids would like the goat cheese (my favorite with fig spread 🤤) so I added some basic cheddar. But they LOVED it - I spread a little on one of the plain crackers with fig spread on top. So good!

🦀🐙🐡I backed Open Ocean from @featherstonegames on @kickstarter this summer. It’s so incredibly neat to see a game come together from start to finish.

🐠🐟🐬This game is beautiful I can’t wait to sit to play with the kids as they become budding marine biologists.

🧵Right before my dad passed last year, during my last visit with him, he gave me this giant bag of these vintage-y wooden spools knowing that I’d use them in my art classes or some other creative way.

🧐As I was lesson planning this weekend the idea came to me when I peeked them in my wood craftin’ drawer - CHRISTMAS TREE!!

✂️I also have a simpler idea in mind with no wire bending/cutting to try it in my art classes as a kinda ‘extra’ project for early finishers. Stay tuned!

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃🍽 I’m grateful th Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃🍽
I’m grateful this Thanksgiving for my Dad ❤️

📖📖📖When he was alive I’m not sure I appreciated this book as much, but now that he’s gone it’s made me appreciate him even more that he took the time to catalog all our family recipes into two cookbooks for us to have.

🦃🍁🍂This Thanksgiving without my mom joining us (she’s with friends this year) I was without her traditional treats like my favorite Pumpkin Cheesecake.

💪🏻So I attempted that (my first cheesecake EVER!) and Tussies (mini pecan pies) from scratch using my families recipes. I’m so excited to dig in today and the whole time making them made me feel extremely #grateful for my Dad & all he did for his family. 💕
