ooooooh weeee, I {LOVE} me some cotton candy! So much so, that my mom bought me one of those cotton candy machines, you know, one of those fun nostalgia-esqe ones that can sit on a table. It’s a bit over-the-top, and I have MAYBE used it once (it sits in our loft in the garage, well, that’s if the hubs didn’t secretly toss it out – HA!), but IT ROCKS!!!!
I {LOVE} cotton candy sooo much, it is my favorite part of going to Disney World! I buy loads of it the last day we are there to load up the suitcase. There is nothing like some really good cotton candy – Disney does it good! The store-bought foil bagged version is okay, if you are desperate and need your cotton candy fix, but it’s just okay; I’d rather have the real stuff any day :)
My last baking store purchase involved buying cotton candy & piña colada flavoring used for candy and baking – YUM!
So, when better than the present to experiment with the ol’ cotton candy flavoring?
I can’t stand it! These are SO yummy and they are Hubs x 2 and kiddo x 4 approved (my family & a friends family). Don’t worry, I didn’t suddenly grow another husband & 2 more kids :).
I experimented with the consistency a little. Because cotton candy is light & fluffy I wanted to emulate that in a cookie.
Lo & behold my “cotton candy cake cookie”!
These cookies are so light and fluffy and they perfectly emulate cotton-candy in taste, texture, and smell.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- In a mixing bowl stir together the cake mix, baking powder, and flavoring packet.
- Add eggs to bowl, stirring them in one at a time.
- Add vegetable oil & water to bowl; stir until well blended.
- Add 1/2 tsp. liquid flavoring; combine until completely blended.
- Drop by spoonfuls onto a pre-greased cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle cookies with sanding sugar.
- Bake for 11 minutes or until edges are brown.
- Allow to cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet.
- Cut out circles with 2 1/4”(58mm) circle cutter (I used this)
- Transfer with spatula to cooling rack to cool completely.

I followed the recipe exactly but it is so runny!!!! What did I do wrong!!!
hmmmm I’m not sure Gilda – could be a number of things – altitude, different ingredients, oven temps, letting it sit out, mixing it for too long… or it could have just been a fluke :(
I used two packets of the frosting mix instead of the liquid flavoring to keep costs down and these cookies were so cute and yummy–it also gave a more intense color!
Also, this was probably the quickest and easiest cookie I have ever made. Definitely a cute recipe that I will keep in my arsenal forever.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Awesome Haley!! Thanks for letting me know :) xx
How do they get the green color? It there a way to make them be pink? I’m thinking these would be perfect for my daughter’s pinkalicious party!
We just had a Pinkalicious birthday too Kristyn! I think if you just do the cotton candy liquid flavoring and pink food dye that would work! xx
Kelly,
You HAVE heard of the flavor, but you call it Fairy Floss (my husband is from Canberra). The frosting packets are 99 cents at my local supermarket, but you may be able to find them on Amazon.com. Doubt they’d be cheap, though. Good luck!
Martha
Where did you find the cotton candy liquid flavoring? I checked several different stores and nowhere has it.
Hi Brittany! I actually got mine at a little mom & pop shop in my hometown, but the last two times I stopped by, they were out. So, when I need it next I’ll be ordering it through Amazon, which seems to be the cheapest place to purchase (http://amzn.to/13nDrEP). Hope that helps :)
I just made this recipe. My only question is, is the batter suppose to be so runny?
Hi Nicole! Kinda of, but not really…when I dropped them by spoonfuls they were thick enough that I could place them by spoonfuls, separated, but as I baked them they merged together like in my one photo. I apologize I don’t have any pictures during (I was experimenting & wasn’t expecting them to turn out – haha – but they did – they are delish!). So to answer your question – they are not as solid, as say, the batter for chocolate chip cookies, but they aren’t as runny, as say, Greek yogurt, does that make sense? I hope so! I guess it’s time to remake these guys pretty soon here & do some more experimentation to thicken the batter up a bit :) xx
Hi I am in Australia and haven’t heard of the flavour mix cotton candy. However I can get the essence. Can I leave out the frosting flavour thing will it still work without it?
I think so Kelly – not sure though, I’ve only tried it the one way. You could always try! Let me know how it works out :) xx
OMG! I’m obsessed with cotton candy and even had it at my wedding. I have all these ingredients in my pantry, including the cotton candy flavoring (obsessed I tell ya). I’m going to try to make some this weekend:) Thanks for sharing!!
YAY!!! Sounds like a plan! Thanks for checking it out Julie – my fellow cc obsessed-friend :) xx
I am obsessed also.. I wear cc lotion and body spray.. The only thingi can’t find is cc scented CANDLES? shouldu know which Company sells that scent… Yankee candle can’t even do it’
Hi Linda! I did see some cotton candy scented candles at Target a while back – they had a candy flavored line – not sure if it’s still around though (it was mainly during the summer :) xx
I also had trouble finding the cotton candy flavoring. Unfortunately, I did not give myself enough time to order it on Amazon. However, I found some bubblegum flavoring at Hobby Lobby. Seems to have worked fine. The cookies are delicious. Thanks for the recipe!!
mmmm bubble gum – sounds yummy too!!! Thanks Marissa :) xx
These are SO cute! I love cotton candy so much, and anything covered in sprinkles of course :)
awww thanks Hayley!!! hey – me too!!!! :) xxx
Having no luck finding the cotton candy flavoring and short on time for ordering it thru amazon… Will adding an extra flavor packet suffice????
Hey Lauren…hmmm not sure…you could try…I only tried it the one way in my recipe. Sorry I couldn’t provide you much more help :( But, I also just found this article – might be a viable alternative: http://bit.ly/Ztgixp. Thanks! xx ♥ m
Thanks! I’m going to try it with a extra packet…. I will let you know how it goes :) meanwhile I’m ordering the flavoring for next time :)
Sounds good – hope it went well!! :) xx
I’m a complete cotton candy fiend, so I used 2 flavor packets but no extract/flavoring because I was out. They’re in the oven now…have to let you know how they turn out!
:) hehe me too!!! Hope they turned out yummy!!! xx Thanks for stopping by!!
This looks amazing! They don’t sell cotton candy frosting flavor mix in Ottawa Canada, so I’m completely out of luck. Going to have to make a trip down to buy the stuff. LOL. I pinned this.
FrozenFairytale
poo – maybe try Amazon or Ebay? Crossing my fingers they will release it there soon! Thanks for stopping by & pinning anyway :) xx ♥ m
Just saw your comment – from small town Caledonia, ON and stumbled across the Duncan Hines flavor packets in our local Zehrs grocery store (Loblaws chain) – had all the flavours .99/pack! Couldn’t believe we had it – checked Walmart today – they didn’t have it. Hopefully you can find it out your way!
Great stuff here…WTG super momma.
Thank you!!! xx ♥ m
If you freeze your cotton candy it will last a looooooog time. Just bring it to room temp before eating it! A cotton candy vendor at our state fair told me told me this trick! And then sold me a bunch of cotton candy on the last day for 50 cents s bag! Had cotton candy for overt a year and the last bag tasted as good as the first!
Soooooo awesome Sheilah! Thank you! Not that I ever have left over cotton candy – haha – maybe I’ll be as lucky as you one day :) xx ♥ m
I found the cotton candy flavoring on Amazon.com . It was only a couple dollars, free shipping.
Awesome Jessica! Thank you :) xx ♥ m

Hi Jensen! I’m sure you could try adding more of the cotton candy flavoring packets, that might work :) Thanks for stopping by! xx ♥ m

WHOA. I found you via Pinterest and I have NEVER met anyone who had a passion for cotton candy like you…………………..other than ME! Which is why I stalked you. JK, I just came to this post! But I didn’t know this product existed (the flavor mixes) and now I’m afraid! I might eat this for every meal. Yikes.
I’m so excited!
Here’s the craziest thing I did for my love of cotton candy (do you know they call it fairy floss in Aus?? so cute)…I made cotton candy perfume in little domes filled with glitter like a snowglobe. \m/
Nice to meet you!
SH
tehehee Stephanie! I {heart} cotton candy sooooo very much, can you tell?!! OMG you need to send me a pic (& send me some!) of your cotton candy perfume – sounds like perfection!!! True story…you just reminded me that I also own cotton candy perfume (I had forgotten about it!) – HA! (Demeter Fragrance sells the cotton candy perfume I own {http://www.demeterfragrance.com/704065/products/Cotton-Candy.html}) You & I, two cotton candy junkies!!! Thanks for stopping by :) xx ♥ m
where do you get that flavoring at? im in florida!
Hello Ruthann!! I got the cc liquid flavoring from a little market by my parents house in DE, but I’ve seen it at specialty bake shops & kitchen stores too. Amazon also sells it as well {http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00016V20U/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00016V20U&linkCode=as2&tag=mamamiss-20). The Duncan Hines powder flavoring I purchased at Target, but I have seen it everywhere, the grocery store, Walmart, basically anywhere that sells Duncan Hines products. Hope that helps :) Thanks for stopping by!! xx ♥ m
Hi!
I just found this recipe on Pinterest and fell in love! I am having a cupcake themed party for my little girl who is turning One very soon. I’d love to make these but since I am in Australia and I don’t have a lot of time to get the “Cotton Candy Flavored Duncan Hines Frosting Creations Flavor Mix” (I can’t find any in Oz! it all has to come from o/s) would I be able to add the liqiud flavouring to both elements of the recipe (provided I get the frosting thick enough to compensate of course) or will it not work?
not frosting…mixture..provided I can get the mixture to the right consistancy
Hi Francesca! I just sent you an email :)
xx ♥ m
